Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) Bans The Sale of Delta-8 Products
Canadian cannabis wholesales the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) has made clear its intentions to curtail the sale of delta-8-THC products in Ontario. In a letter addressed to Licensed Producers, the OCS stated that they will no longer fulfill Delta 8 orders, moving forward. The OCS has raised concerns about the safety of delta 8 products that are manufactured synthetically from other cannabinoids.
Delta 8 occurs in trace amounts in cannabis. This, most, if not all, of the delta 8 products that are in the market are manufactured synthetically. The preparation process raises lots of concerns such as the raw material, the agents used, as well as the manufacturing environment. Denny Palarchio, chief operating officer at the OCS has stated that they are only concerned about the synthetic forms of delta 8 and not that which occurs naturally. “Dried cannabis with low levels of naturally occurring delta-8 THC will be unaffected,” he said in the email to LPs.
The OCS has promised to seem guidance and direction from Health Canada on how to address intoxicating and synthetic cannabinoids such as delta 8. Meanwhile, the OCS will take the following steps:
- Not accept delta-8 products in product calls.
- Not issue notices to purchase new delta-8 products.
- Not disperse purchase orders for delta-8 products and cancel already issued, but not fulfilled orders
- Not issue replenishment orders for delta-8 products
Meanwhile, existing delta-8 THC product inventory will continue being sold through OCS’ wholesale channels as well as to consumers through the OCS website.
