Cannabis in Wyoming: Laws, Legal Status, Recreational & Medical Use

Wyoming has no recreational marijuana market or broad medical marijuana program. The 2026 reclassification proposal did not advance, and the older epilepsy hemp-extract registry was terminated in 2019. The lower-quantity limits are 0.3 gram for liquids and three grams for powder, crystalline, pill or capsule forms. Count carrier material, not packaging; the plant threshold is not a universal edible allowance.

Where Cannabis Can Be Purchased

There is no licensed recreational marijuana retail system. Unauthorized delivery can carry up to ten years, $10,000, or both under section 35-7-1031(a)(ii).

Public Consumption Laws

Private property does not exempt unauthorized use. Section 35-7-1039 covers knowing or intentional use or intoxication, with lawful-practitioner exceptions: up to six months, $750, or both.

Home Cultivation

Section 35-7-1040 prohibits unauthorized marijuana cultivation: up to six months, $1,000, or both. Other conduct can support additional charges. Licensed hemp farming is separate.

Medical Cannabis Program

The official digest for 2026 HB 166 records that the House did not consider it for introduction on February 13, 2026. Its proposed Schedule III change and July implementation date did not become an operating medical program.

Qualifying Conditions

The former epilepsy hemp-extract registry is historical. The Department of Health’s repeal document states that its authorizing statutes were repealed effective March 6, 2019, and that the registry ceased operations. Its old condition and oil requirements are not current enrollment criteria.

Patient Registration

There is no broad state medical marijuana card application. Old hemp-extract forms should not be used to apply to the terminated registry.

Medical vs Recreational Differences

A medical card from another state does not create Wyoming marijuana access. FDA-approved prescription medicines have a separate legal route; they should not be confused with state-dispensary marijuana.
