Bill Rinehart, Founder and CEO of BOLD- Interview Series

As the cannabis industry continues to mature, consumer taste and preferences have become sophisticated, and hence the demand for cutting-edge hardware to support premium extracts has become increasingly critical. The cannabis hardware market faces the challenge of adapting swiftly to dynamic customer demands while upholding uncompromising standards of quality and durability. In this context, the pursuit of state-of-the-art solutions has become paramount to delivering an unparalleled end-user experience, and industry players are continually exploring innovative technologies to meet this demand.

Amidst this backdrop, companies like BOLD have emerged as leaders, leveraging the latest advancements in technology and innovation to craft reliable and efficient solutions for the cannabis atomizer market. Their commitment to using best-of-breed components, combined with a focus on form,  function, and materials, positions them at the forefront of the industry. In this interview, founder and CEO of BOLD, Bill Rinehart discusses with MyCannabis the strategies and insights driving the success of BOLD Carts. He sheds light on how the company navigates the dynamic cannabis industry to provide high-quality hardware that aligns with the evolving needs of both plant-based oil extractors and consumers alike.

Can you tell us about BOLD Carts' journey in the cannabis industry and how the company has contributed to the evolution of cannabis technology and supply chain economics?

Founded in 2019, BOLD has quickly grown to be a market leader in the cannabis technology space but it didn’t happen overnight. With over two decades of experience, I’ve successfully steered companies from their inception to become multi-million dollar enterprises in many different sectors.

What we’ve done in the cannabis sector mirrors this approach. Recognizing a crucial gap in the market, we pinpointed the demand for top-notch, dependable hardware tailored to support premium extracts. Now, as a leader in the space, we strive to maintain our status as the go-to technology for companies seeking a vessel for their extracts. BOLD technology combines quality, durability, and innovation in its vape hardware to support plant-based oil extractors, processors, and growers. We are with our customers every step of the way to ensure we’re creating a product that matches the quality of their extract.

Innovation is key in any industry. What are some of the unique technological advancements or patented technologies that BOLD Carts has developed to meet the changing preferences of cannabis consumers?

As you said, BOLD is constantly innovating to ensure the highest possible quality for our customers. Our diverse portfolio of all-in-one devices, batteries, and cartridges, each designed for specific purposes. This guarantees that we have a solution for any consumer to meet every oil-specific demand.

We currently carry glass, poly, and zirconia full ceramic cartridges as well as batteries and disposable all-in-ones. Each product is crafted with the highest quality materials with an extremely low failure rate, proven through our rigorous testing procedures.

Our approach to product development is unique. Take, for instance, our glass cartridges, crafted with a highly porous ceramic core that facilitates extract absorption, offering a substantial contact area and delivering a smoother, fuller draw. Additionally, The BOLD poly cartridge creates an even distribution of heat and a large surface area to enhance flavor and deliver large volumes of vapor. The aperture and battery temperature options are designed to give processors and consumers the ability to fine-tune their volume and taste to facilitate their desired, personalized experience.

BOLD Carts seems to emphasize adaptability to customer demand. How does the company stay ahead of trends in the cannabis market, especially in terms of evolving consumer preferences for products like Rosin and thicker oils?

In terms of adjusting to evolving consumer preferences, BOLD entered the market with a well-curated portfolio tailored precisely to meet consumers' demands for Rosin and thicker oils. With customer satisfaction as our top priority, we understand the importance of adapting to evolving market dynamics. Luckily, our manufacturers work hand-in-hand with us to ensure that we produce an excellent product for our customers.

Benefiting from over 15 years of experience in the technology space, I am adept at tracking consumer trends and ensuring our company stays ahead of the curve. At BOLD, we prioritize staying attuned to emerging trends, and our research and development team plays a pivotal role in this process. I couldn’t be more proud of their dedication to addressing the evolving needs of the cannabis industry and their ability to provide countless solutions.

Supply chain economics are critical for the cannabis industry's growth. How does BOLD Carts optimize its supply chain to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness, and what benefits does this bring to your B2B clients?

We recognize the pivotal role supply chain economics plays in the growth of the cannabis industry. To optimize efficiency, we’ve dedicated a lot of time and effort to strategizing. Our commitment to communication and transparency with our clients and manufacturers is the cornerstone of our approach. Transparency and communication often lead to better planning and decision making which is why this is crucial to us at BOLD.

Quality and durability are paramount in the cannabis hardware industry. Could you share some insights into the quality control processes BOLD Carts employs to ensure that your products meet the high standards demanded by the market?

Here is a non-exhaustive list of the tests that BOLD conducts. Due to patents and manufacturing relationships, this is all we can share:

  • Simulated 3000m Altitude Air-pressure Test
  • -20°C – +60°C Temperature Test
  • Salt Spray Test
  • Appearance Test: wear-resistant, alcohol, sweat, hardness, adhesion, etc.
  • Functional Test: vapor amount, suction, return of e-liquid, leakage, battery capacity, battery resistance, short circuit protection, etc.
  • Life Test puffs, battery self-discharge, negative pressure leakage, etc.
  • Simulated Transport Drop Test, Vibration Test, Soak Test

Supporting extractors, processors, and growers is an essential part of the supply chain. How does BOLD Carts collaborate with these stakeholders to enhance the overall economics of the cannabis industry?

Even as a newcomer to the industry in 2019, we recognized a gap in customer choices, especially when it came to deciding manufacturers. At that time, customers were limited in choices and either had to spend a ton of money on one well-known branded device or settle for a cheaper, unreliable alternative. BOLD Carts stepped into the market providing high-quality products at a reasonable price.

We are extremely receptive to feedback and the asks of our customers and encourage folks to reach out with any suggestions. It is through building and cultivating these key relationships that we can truly understand the ins and outs of our customers’ wishes, strengthening both our relationships and the entire cannabis industry in turn.

Looking ahead, what innovations and developments can we expect from BOLD Carts soon, and how do you foresee these advancements impacting the cannabis technology landscape and supply chain economics?

I don’t want to give too much away but what I can say is that consumers can anticipate more innovation in the coming year. We have several patents in progress that we expect to be huge for us in terms of fine-tuning our technology for an even more streamlined experience.
