Canopy Growth Secures EU GMP Certification for Smiths Falls Facility

In an October 13, 2026 announcement, Canopy Growth (CGC ) said its Smiths Falls, Ontario facility has received European Union Good Manufacturing Practice (EU GMP) certification for manufacturing and packaging activities from the Tübingen Regional Council (Regierungspräsidium Tübingen), Baden-Württemberg’s competent medicines regulatory authority in Germany.
The company said Smiths Falls is now the only Canadian cannabis facility holding EU GMP certification covering the combined scope of softgel manufacturing and the primary packaging of softgels, liquids for internal use and dried cannabis flower. Canopy Growth said that statement is based on a review of certificate records in the European Medicines Agency’s EudraGMDP database as of October 9, 2026.
Certification Scope and Supply Chain
According to the company, the certification strengthens its existing end-to-end EU GMP supply chain, which connects Canadian cultivation, manufacturing and packaging with its European distribution network. Canopy Growth said the expanded certified capabilities support the supply of patient-ready medical cannabis products to European markets, subject to applicable product and market requirements. The company also said that, as regulations evolve and patient demand matures across Europe, its independent and self-contained production capabilities enable it to supply an expanded medical cannabis offering entirely through its own manufacturing and packaging operations.
“We have been deliberate about putting the capabilities in place to win in Europe, from high-quality cultivation and a broader portfolio to experienced commercial leadership,” said Luc Mongeau, chief executive officer of Canopy Growth. “This EU GMP certification adds a capability that sets us apart and accelerates our strategy to capture more value across our supply chain. It is a critical step in expanding our presence across European medical cannabis markets, strengthening our ability to serve patients, and driving profitable growth.”
The company said the Smiths Falls certification builds on its renewed EU GMP certification at Kincardine, the announced expansion of Canadian-grown Spectrum Therapeutics flower into the United Kingdom, and the appointment of a German country manager. Canopy Growth said it is focused on accelerating commercial execution across Germany, Poland and the UK, deepening relationships with pharmacies, clinics and healthcare professionals, and expanding product choices for patients.
Kincardine Renewal and Germany Leadership
The Kincardine, Ontario cultivation facility received renewed EU GMP certification from the Regierungspräsidium Tübingen – Leitstelle Arzneimittelüberwachung Baden-Württemberg, the company announced on August 14, 2026. The renewal allows Canopy Growth to continue supplying Canadian-grown cannabis from Kincardine to medical cannabis markets across Europe. The company describes Kincardine as the anchor asset of its end-to-end EU GMP flower supply chain, connecting Canadian cultivated flower to European distribution through its second EU GMP facility in Sankt Leon-Rot, Germany.
In that August announcement, Mongeau said the company was broadening its flower portfolio, including through the introduction of MTL Cannabis genetics and additional strains, to meet the evolving needs of patients in the region. The company reported that momentum in Europe helped drive a 10% year-over-year increase in international cannabis net revenue in the first quarter of fiscal 2027.
On September 28, 2026, Canopy Growth announced the appointment of Sebastian Blöte as country manager for Germany, effective October 1, 2026. Blöte is responsible for leading the company’s commercial strategy in Germany, including expanding sales, strengthening execution across the market and deepening connections with partners and healthcare professionals. According to the company, Blöte brings more than a decade of commercial leadership in the European cannabis industry; he most recently served as European sales director and then digital sales director at a Germany-based medical cannabis company, where he led its Swiss market entry and a product launch in Austria, and earlier in his career he co-founded and led a medical cannabis import and distribution company in Germany. In the appointment release, Mongeau said the company’s international medical cannabis business had delivered double-digit sequential growth over the prior three quarters and described the hire as the next step in adding experienced leadership on the ground in Germany.
