An Israeli study has revealed that compounds from cannabis and mushrooms can kill colon cancer cells. The study was conducted by a team from Cannabotech which is a biomedical company that harnesses the therapeutic potential of cannabinoids and medicinal mushrooms to develop preventive medical products. Cannabotech has developed an “integrative-colon” product targeting colon cancer cells that was used for this study.

The research team included Prof. Tami Peretz, a senior oncologist at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital, and pharmacologist Dr. Isaac Angel. The research team released a press release announcing the results of the study and the new product.

The researchers looked at Cannabotech’s integrative-colon product that is designed to target various colon cancer cells. The research also compared the activity of each cannabinoid used in the product separately. The results showed that the cannabinoid-medical mushroom combination killed up to 90% of the colon cancer cells. It appears that the different compounds work in synergy to provide a more powerful and sustained therapeutic effect.

This was a laboratory-based study which paves way for future use on colorectal cancer patients when safety and efficacy have been ascertained. The results demonstrate the potential of Cannabotech’s product in the treatment of colon cancer.

Colon cancer is a leading cause of death in the U.S as well as around the world. In 2020, about 1.9 million people were diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Current treatment involves a combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, depending on the stage of the disease.

Cannabotech is working to become a leader in integrative medicine. This product is intended for use in combination with standard chemotherapy treatment. The company plans to distribute the product in Israel, the UK, and the US towards the end of 2022.
