MyCannabis: How did your career path lead you to the cannabis industry?

Jack: My journey into the cannabis industry began about seven years ago when I noticed the fragmented and less robust technological landscape within the emerging U.S. cannabis market. With two decades of experience in helping companies leverage technology across various industries, I recognized the untapped potential in addressing the unique challenges faced by cannabis businesses. The idea of creating a comprehensive platform like Mosaic, dedicated to enhancing the customer experience and operational efficiency, sparked my interest. Three years ago, we embarked on this journey, and today, Mosaic stands as a testament to our commitment to delivering superior technology tailored for the cannabis sector.

MyCannabis: How does Mosaic work?

Jack: Mosaic operates as a technology-oriented company with a team predominantly composed of engineering developers. Our focus is on optimizing the customer experience, specifically for mid-sized and smaller dispensaries that may lack the resources to develop their own ecommerce solutions. Our platform, designed to level the playing field, offers features surpassing those of larger players at a fraction of the cost. The $500 monthly subscription per location is intentionally affordable, ensuring accessibility for a broad range of dispensaries. What sets us apart is our emphasis on customization – once a dispensary adopts our app, everything seamlessly aligns with their brand. This includes the app, online menu, and more, allowing dispensaries to establish a distinctive and powerful online presence.

MyCannabis: How is the market responding to Mosaic?

Jack: The response from the market has been overwhelming. When we showcase what Mosaic offers, about 9 out of 10 dispensaries express immediate interest. To ensure seamless integration with dispensaries' operations, we collaborate with other platforms, particularly the point-of-sale (POS) systems they use for sales and inventory management. This collaborative approach not only streamlines operations but also results in valuable leads and opportunities from our partners. Our $500 monthly subscription fee is not just affordable; it offers more capabilities and a superior customer experience compared to other platforms. Many customers even suggest that we could charge more, but our goal is to make our service accessible to as many dispensaries as possible. Furthermore, once a dispensary purchases the app, every aspect is customized to their brand, ensuring a unique and brand-focused online marketplace presence. This level of customization would cost dispensaries millions if they were to build such a platform from scratch.

MyCannabis: How is Mosaic similar to the Starbucks App?

Jack: The Mosaic platform draws inspiration from the user-friendly and functional experience provided by popular apps like Starbucks. Our model offers a seamless e-commerce experience, mirroring the success of the Starbucks app. Dispensaries using Mosaic gain their own branded e-commerce online menu, app, loyalty rewards program, and payments platform, setting a new standard for cannabis retail. The unified platform integrates e-commerce, loyalty rewards programs, and payments, a departure from the fragmented solutions prevalent in the cannabis industry. Similar to Starbucks, Mosaic enables dispensaries to process seamless payments through their app, providing convenience and security to customers while simplifying transactions for businesses. This approach reduces the risk of compliance issues and security concerns associated with cannabis transactions. MyCannabis: What is Mosaic’s biggest impact in the industry?

Jack: Mosaic's most significant impact lies in empowering small and medium-sized dispensaries to compete effectively with larger players and the illicit market in the online marketplace. By offering a smooth and hassle-free online shopping experience, we not only enhance customer satisfaction but also provide greater visibility for these dispensaries. The familiarity of our technology, comparable to the Starbucks app, aids in onboarding new customers, contributing to the overall growth of the cannabis industry.

MyCannabis: What has been the biggest challenge in rolling out Mosaic?

Jack: The primary challenge in rolling out Mosaic has been integrating our platform with the diverse point-of-sale (POS) systems used by dispensaries – a daunting task considering there are approximately 80 different systems. While customers appreciate our demo and express interest, the onboarding process is hindered when we have not yet integrated with their specific POS. Despite this challenge, the rollout of Mosaic has been promising and well-received by the market.

MyCannabis: What's next for Mosaic?

Jack: Mosaic's future holds exciting prospects. Our immediate focus is on expanding our footprint across the U.S. and Canada, aiming to onboard more dispensaries onto our platform. Additionally, we plan to add more capabilities and functionalities to the platform, enhancing its overall value for dispensaries. Beyond the cannabis sector, we are eyeing the vast global e-commerce market, which is worth over $7 trillion. The potential to explore this market represents a thrilling prospect for Mosaic in the near future.
