Interviews
Scott Lynch, Founder and CEO of HashDash – Interview Series

As the cannabis industry expands and the number of offered products and brands become essentially endless, this never-ending digital catalog can become quite confusing for consumers who are unsure of what products to purchase or who may not be the most knowledgeable about cannabis. To both educate consumers on cannabis chemistry and streamline the dispensary shopping experience, entrepreneur Scott Lynch founded HashDash, a platform that assists with those oftentimes complex processes.
What subjects in graphic design did you mainly study while attending Lakes Region Community College, and how did it ignite your professional interest in the many facets of graphic design?
I studied a broad range of subjects, from publication and web design to cinematography. What drew me to graphic design was the ability to take an idea or vision and bring it to life visually. I was fascinated by how design could shape perception, influence emotion, and ultimately impact how people connect with a brand or message.
Prior to founding HashDash, what roles/positions did you hold in graphic design, and what were the most transferable or otherwise universally useful skills that you learned while gaining graphic design experience?
I ran my own graphic design business, working directly with clients to create everything from logos and websites to business cards and branding assets. One of the most valuable lessons from that experience was learning how to take feedback objectively. In design, responses are often immediate, and you quickly develop the ability to embrace constructive criticism, set ego aside, and focus on improvement. That mindset not only helped me grow creatively but also shaped how I lead, staying open, iterative, and focused on building better outcomes through collaboration.
What caught your professional interest in working for a cannabis cultivation supplies company such as RX Green Technologies? Because even medical cannabis was barely legal in New Hampshire when you started with the company, did you have any initial concerns about working for a company with an ancillary relationship to cannabis?
Addiction has deeply affected my family, both with alcohol and prescription drugs. Growing up, I saw loved ones rely on these substances as coping mechanisms, but they often masked the pain rather than addressing it. Watching that unfold, I couldn’t accept that those were the only options available. That personal experience led me to explore alternatives, and that’s when I discovered cannabis. Almost immediately, I knew I wanted to be part of an industry that could offer people a different path, one rooted in healing, both physically and mentally. I had no concerns about working with a company in the space. Rx Green operated entirely within legal bounds, and as an ancillary provider, we weren’t directly handling the plant. To me, the mission outweighed the stigma, and I saw an opportunity to contribute to something meaningful at a time when the industry was just beginning to take shape.
Although the cannabis industry itself can be quite fickle sometimes, what were some memorable ways/strategies that you and the sales and marketing team came up to successfully market Rx Green Technologies’ products?
One of our most effective strategies was offering free product trials to cultivators, allowing them to experience the benefits firsthand in real-time. This approach demonstrated the scalability, ease of use, improved yields, and overall ROI of our products, directly compared to what they were currently using. To reinforce the value, we often created custom cost comparison models based on trial results, making the return on investment tangible and compelling.
Because of that strong ancillary relationship to cannabis cultivation, did you and the Rx Green team face any pushback from any regulatory or law enforcement agencies, whether that be on the local, state, or federal level?
Yes, even as an ancillary business, we still encountered regulatory hurdles. Several of our employees faced difficulties securing mortgages simply because they worked in the cannabis industry, regardless of the fact that our business didn’t touch the plant directly. Providing ancillary services was still viewed by many institutions as participating in a federally unregulated space. Additionally, early on, many of the cultivators we worked with operated primarily in cash, which introduced added complexity when it came to coordinating secure and compliant cash pickups.
What exactly inspired you to create the HashDash platform? What gaps in the cannabis industry and operations does the HashDash platform hope to fill?
The idea for HashDash came from personal experience. I often felt intimidated, and honestly, lost, walking into dispensaries. The experience felt more transactional than consultative, leaving me to blindly navigate a sea of products with little guidance. It became a frustrating cycle of trial and error. That’s when I realized: cannabis needed a better discovery layer, one that puts the consumer in control. HashDash was built to fill that gap. Most platforms today offer generic listings, rely on pay-to-play models, and prioritize revenue over consumer needs. HashDash takes a different approach: we deliver a personalized experience based on each user’s intent, goals, and local product availability. For consumers, that means trusted, unbiased recommendations. For dispensaries, it means better visibility for the right products, deeper insights into consumer behavior, and a smarter way to move inventory. By bridging this gap, we’re helping both sides win.
How does HashDash assist both cannabis consumers and businesses alike while also remaining user-friendly?
For consumers, HashDash delivers trusted, personalized strain recommendations through an intuitive quiz and smart matching engine, creating a frictionless experience that guides them toward better outcomes. The platform analyzes user preferences, goals, and behavioral signals to surface strains that align with their individual needs. For businesses, the platform will soon integrate directly with POS systems to match real-time menu data to local consumers, increasing product visibility and driving high-intent traffic. Unlike many marketplaces that prioritize listings based on pay-to-play mechanics, HashDash does not allow dispensaries to influence results. While dispensaries pay for menu integration, product matches are determined solely by user intent, data, and local availability. There is no way to buy placement or more recommendations as everything is personalized and unbiased, ensuring users get what’s genuinely best for them. This builds long-term trust and serves both sides of the market with integrity.
How is the HashDash platform able to organize and reference the data for so many thousands of strains? How does the interface personalize the results for each user?
HashDash currently processes strain-level data through a proprietary algorithm powered by structured user input (via our behavior quiz), social listening, and over 637,000 data points across more than 5,000 strains. These include cultivar details, product attributes, and behavioral signals from users. This robust dataset, combined with each user’s preferences and behavioral signals, fuels personalized match percentages and dynamically adapts results over time. We’re now working with dispensaries to integrate live product listings and POS data, which will allow us to surface real-time product availability in the near future, bringing even greater range and precision to our matching algorithm.
How do you hope that the HashDash platform educates consumers about cannabis’ deep biodiversity and medicinal possibilities?
HashDash empowers consumers by demystifying cannabis through personalized recommendations and science-backed education. Rather than relying on outdated labels like “indica” or “sativa,” we focus on terpene and cannabinoid profiles, effect-based goals, and real-world user feedback. Beyond the matching experience, we’ve built a comprehensive educational library, nine guides with over 71 chapters, reviewed by our Science Advisory Board for accuracy. These dive into everything from the basics of terpenes and cannabinoids to how cannabis interacts with the body. Every strain page is also packed with digestible, relevant content to guide user understanding. Our hope is that this deeper knowledge puts consumers in control of their cannabis experience, central to our mission of trusted, purposeful consumption.
How do you envision this technology evolving alongside the cannabis industry’s growth?
As the cannabis industry matures, consumers will expect the same level of personalization and ease they experience in other sectors, whether it’s music, shopping, or health. Our world is embedded with technology and personalization, and that expectation will only grow. In a world of instant gratification, cannabis consumers are no different; they want relief and answers. While cannabis will always involve some trial and error as our bodies and needs evolve, our goal is to drastically reduce that guesswork through smarter data and more precise matching. HashDash is building the foundational discovery layer for cannabis, one that can evolve into a powerful insights engine, compliance-friendly marketing platform, and a deeply personalized wellness tool. As regulations shift, and as wellness and ecommerce platforms lean into cannabis, our technology is built to scale with deeper integrations, predictive algorithms, and smarter feedback loops that adapt to the user, not the other way around.
